Our annual Homes Tour helps fund heritage and community development
Proceeds from our annual homes tour not only help preserve and protect our heritage, they enhance our community quality of life as well. This year, funds from the 2013 homes tour will help:
The New Westminster Heritage Foundation – a non-profit society co-funded by the City of New Westminster, to financially assist owners of municipally designated heritage homes. The Foundation’s goals: encourage voluntary municipal heritage designation and assist homeowners in their restoration efforts through the Foundation’s house grants program.
Tourism New Westminster – to promote the Royal City’s great attractions, festivals and history.
Grace, Grit and Gusto: Profiles of Remarkable Royal City Women – a book that recognizes New Westminster women, past and present, who have made significant contributions to our city, province and country. Largely overlooked by the history books, the achievements of these women range from activism to athleticism; from professional to cultural. NWHPS contributes funds to produce the book, which sells for $20. In turn, 100 per cent of book sales benefit WINGS (Women in Need Gaining Strength).
Women in need of gaining strength (WINGS): WINGS operates New Westminster’s Monarch Place – a shelter for women and children who are fleeing domestic violence.
