2021 MINUTES

NEW WESTMINSTER HERITAGE PRESERVATION SOCIETY

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING – MARCH 18, 2021

ONLINE, via ZOOM Link , NEW WESTMINSTER

Meeting called to order at 7:10 p.m.  Quorum confirmed

Welcome to attendees by Steve North, President NWHPS.

President’s message:

  • Welcome to members and guests in this, our second year of presenting our AGM via Zoom.
  • HRA: discussions concerning recent Heritage Revitalization Agreements before Council (Queen’s Park Meat Market and 221 Townsend Place – how can NWHPS makes its position more effectively for these and future proposed HRAs that impact heritage stock.
  • There are continuing difficulties with City Hall regarding the HRA processes and policies.  The society requested a halt on HRA’s in Queen’s Park until the process has had the promised review.
  • CHC: Kelly O’Brien’s Pub on CN Station site is creating an outdoor patio; questions regarding a demolition permit for a Queen’s Park residence where the date of construction is in dispute. NWHPS was consulted prior to issuing a demolition permit for a 10th Avenue residence.
  • The NWHPS is considering an updated look for their logo and website. The ongoing pandemic has put this project on the back burner.
  • For a second year, the pandemic has prevented the annual Heritage Homes Tour. Heritage New West is taking the time to consider the kinds of events it can present in the pandemic and the post-pandemic environment.

Financials

  • Summary of the society’s financials was presented by Gail North, the current treasurer (see reports below0
  • Moved and seconded to accept the financial reports as presented.  Motion carried unanimously.

Membership

  • Graeme Davy is responsible for the society’s membership information and he provided a general report.
  • Membership fees for 2021 waived in light of ongoing pandemic, resulting in 40 new members
  • Currently there are 146 members

Election of Directors

  • Current slate of directors will stand again for election.
  • No further nominations put forward for a position as a director.
  • Anyone who wants to participate in the works of the society, but who may not want to be a director, should let any of the directors know.
  • Moved and seconded to accept the current slate of directors for the next term. Motion carried unanimously.

Moved and seconded to accept 2021 AGM minutes – carried unanimously.
