HNW Award Supports NWSS Graduate's Future in Design

Heritage New West is pleased to have awarded the Maureen Arvanitidis Achievement Award to Luanna Chavez, a graduating student from New Westminster Secondary School’s Class of 2026.

The award honours the Society’s president emeritus, Maureen Arvanitidis, and her dedication to heritage conservation and community service in New Westminster. It recognizes a graduating student who demonstrates community engagement, good academic standing, and a strong interest in history, heritage, culture, architecture or community preservation.

Luanna, an international student from Peru, was selected for her achievements and her community work. She plans to continue her education at Douglas College, where she intends to study design.

The scholarship was made possible through proceeds from the sale of works in Heritage New West’s Heritage Art Collection, a collection of original and print paintings featuring historic homes in New West neighbourhoods. Twelve pieces remain available, with proceeds from their sale helping to support Heritage New West’s scholarship and community programs.     

Luanna received the award at the New Westminster Secondary School Grade 12 Scholarship and Bursary Awards Ceremony on June 15, 2026.

Heritage New West congratulates Luanna and wishes her every success as she begins the next chapter of her education and pursues her interest in design.

Through proceeds from the sale of pieces from the  Heritage Art Collection, Heritage New West is investing in the next generation of New Westminster’s community members while celebrating the history and character that make our city unique.
