Massey Victory Heights Streetlight Project Moves Forward
At its June 22, 2026 meeting, New Westminster City Council endorsed an updated funding strategy for Areas 1 and 2 of the Massey Victory Heights Street Lighting Replacement Program. The item appeared on the Consent Agenda and was adopted without discussion.
The updated engineering report reflects a further increase in project costs. In November 2025, Council approved an increase of approximately $640,000 above the original $1.3 million project budget. The June 2026 report adds a further $330,000, bringing the total increase to approximately $960,000 over the original budget for Areas 1 and 2.
The City's commitment to restore five of the original heritage street lamp standards remains unchanged. The June report, however, does not provide additional details regarding the cost of restoring those historic lamp standards.
Construction continues to move ahead. According to the Massey Victory Heights Residents' Association (MVHRA), installation of the underground conduit in Area 1 was completed during the first week of July.
Heritage New West continues to support the preservation and restoration of the neighbourhood's distinctive heritage street lamps, which are an important part of the character and history of Massey Victory Heights.
