Craigdarroch Reconstructed: The Story of the Castle's Design and Construction

In 2016, historian Jim Wolf partnered with Craigdarroch Castle to uncover its lost history. Through meticulous research, he reconstructed the story of the Castle’s design and construction, identifying for the first time the artists behind its stained glass, frescoes, and decorative finishes. His work also reveals the history of the original 28-acre estate, including the long-lost gardens and landscape features cherished by the Dunsmuir family.
Jim Wolf is an historian, heritage expert and planner whose career has focused on researching, writing about, and advocating for British Columbia’s architectural and cultural heritage. He is the 2021 recipient of Heritage BC’s Lifetime Achievement Award and the author of several best-selling and award-winning books on historic places and architecture.
Over the years, Jim has been one of Heritage New West’s most engaging presenters, speaking on topics such as “Researching Your Home’s History,” “The Arts and Crafts Movement in British Columbia,” and “New West: A History in Postcards.”
